"Gangi Serves Up More than Just Eggs at The Gallery"

Nicora Gangi, one of The Gallery's most affluent and acclaimed artists, is known for her eggs - pastel paintings of eggs, that is.  And now Cazenovia will have the opportunity to see much more than just her eggs.  Starting this week, Gangi has agreed to show and sell her large "Masterpiece' paintings in The Beehive Gallery.

Gangi, a nationally known and award winning artist has been showing her artwork at The Beehive Gallery (The Gallery of CNY) since 2003.   Since then she's become known as 'The Egg Lady'.  But just like the old adage "what came first the chicken or the egg?', there's a whole lot more to the artist Nicora Gangi than just her eggs.

Gangi has been a professional artist for over 22 years.  She was educated at the Hartford Art School, Montclair State College and received her BFA and MFA from Syracuse University.  Her work has been featured in many magazines such as American Artist, InternationalArtist and The Pastel Journal in which her most recent award, The Grand Prize Award for the use of pastels, juried by Daniel Greene, was published.   Her work is also seen on many book covers and is showcased in the book, Pure Color, by North Lights Books.

With a highly detailed technique, Gangi renders pastel paintings that are reminiscent of the Dutch still lifes from the 17th century.  The compositions and color of her work challenges the viewer to see the complexities of light and reflection even in the simplest of subject matters.

"My aim as an artist is to use the 'eyes' of my heart' to penetrate this concrete world in order to realize at its depths the ultimate reality."  Gangi continues, "I want the viewer to be filled with awe at something so majestic it evokes a sense of who created this astonishing universe."

"She does this and she does this well," says Jennifer Schutzendorf who works at The Gallery.  Jennifer explains that people are not only drawn to Nicora's work, but also drawn into her work.  "It's amazing to see when someone experiences Nicora's art for the first time. It's as if they can't believe their eyes. They are doubly amazed when I tell them she's a pastel artist.  She uses the pastel so masterfully, it looks like work of an oil painter."

Take the egg for example.  Gangi started showing her smaller pastel pieces that she calls her "morning studies" at the gallery a few years ago.  These are small studies, often eight by ten inches or as small as three by four inches.  And they are often paintings of a solo egg on a dark background with intense shadows and brilliant highlights.  The studies become apart of her large still life masterpieces that are 25 by 30 inches big.

"People who purchase Nicora Gangi's work like it so much they want to see more," says Jason Earley also of The Gallery.  "Nicora enjoys creating these studies and because they sell so well their value continues to increase."  He continues, "Now we're excited to be able to show everyone a whole new level of Nicora at The Gallery."

Gangi's "Masterpiece" pastel will be on view and for sale at The Gallery from September 12, 2007 through October 10, 2007.  You can also get a sneak peak at her new oil paintings that she recently completed through a local artist grant.
