Jane Egan at The Gallery of CNY
Cazenovia Resident and Nationally Recognized Artist, Jane Egan has created box assemblages during her lifetime that are both beautiful and intelligent and have become highly collectible. Egan uses a balanced combination of found objects, small antiquities, empheral elements such magazine clippings and paper cut-outs and 'arte povera' (poor materials) such as twigs and wire. The viewer cannot help but to be drawn into each piece's intimate setting and to contemplate the story within. Each of the boxes is hand-made; many are painted with pure color. According to a press release for a show at the Everson Museum, "Egan has transformed the genre (box assemblage) into a vehicle for the presentation of personal reflection on her travels, commitment to social concern and love of nature and interest in Americana."
NOTE: Jane made four of her paintings available on July 25, 2008. Please call or email for pricing and availability.

Artist Statement: My inspiration originally came from the artist Joseph Cornell whose surreal box constructions using found objects met notoriety during the 1930's and 1940's. I love the fact that I can make these boxes out of my mind and heart and each one is different from the next. I use found objects, paint and wood to form the subject matter. Each signifies a special experience or emotion that I want to bring to reality.
