ARTIST BRETT SCHEIFFLEE
Born in Buffalo, NY, in 1986, Brett Scheifflee studied illustration and art history at Rochester Institute of Technology where he received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 2008. He has extensively studied the history and practices of oil painting and has subsequently devoted himself to fine arts. Brett's work has appeared in solo and group shows throughout Central New York.
“Like most working artists, I make images based on personal attractions. I don't seek out subject matter, but rather try to realize what is presented before me. A goal in many of my paintings, is to imply a quiet sense of narrative in a relatively reserved image. I aim to make paint echo experiences from our surroundings, and create an illusion of something peaceful and provocative for the viewer to study and enjoy.” -Brett Scheifflee
Media Release by The Gallery of CNY
Cazenovia, New York: The Gallery of CNY at 58 Albany St. announces its biggest show of the year "Introducing Brett Scheifflee". Scheifflee, 25 years old, is the youngest artist and newest addition to the group of artists represented by the gallery. Committed to his art as a full-time career, Scheifflee will present 23 new oil paintings on exhibit and for sale at The Gallery of CNY in Cazenovia starting Friday, November 4, 2011 through Wednesday, November 30, 2011.
Scheifflee grew up in East Aurora, NY and graduated from Rochester Institute of Technology in 2009 with a BFA in Illustration & Design. At RIT, he also studied under one of his professors and began his career as a fine artist. During the last few years, Brett has become an important part of The Gallery of CNY as he has continued to hone his skills as an oil painter and show dedication to his full-time career as a fine artist. His work is already in many important collections in our region. Brett currently resides and has an art studio in Aurora NY.
Scheifflee expresses a quiet yet powerful voice in his art. He paints using techniques dating back to the Flemish painters. But the images he chooses from his daily life keep the paintings current and reflective of our modern time. "Quiet by my own nature, I intend to let my images speak for themselves and paint so that what is already beautiful may remain so," explains Brett Scheifflee. In the exhibit will be paintings including landscapes, interiors and a self-portrait.
The Gallery of CNY is holding a special open house for the public Friday, November 4th from 5:30pm-7:30pm. The artist's good friend who is a pastry chef at The Aurora Inn in Aurora NY is kindly providing fresh pastries for the reception. Children are always welcome and encouraged to attend to experience the fine art of our area. Gallery owner Schutzendorf commented that “We are excited to introduce Brett to the public as he is a great example of a young person who has already been successful in pursuing a career that he likes." His paintings have not been exhibited before, and this will be the only time they can be seen as a group.
The Gallery of CNY’s located in the heart of New York State specializes in landscapes by the most original full-time working artists in Central New York. “Introducing Brett Scheifflee” as reviewed by Michael Amy:
“Brett Scheifflee’s strongest pictures have just the right amount of tension. The relation of the
composition to the rectangular field is perfect, and somewhere, ambiguity lurks behind a facade of normality.”

Amy is an art historian, critic, lecturer and curator with a B.A. from the Department of Art History and Archaeology at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel, and an M.A. and Ph.D. from New York University’s Institute of Fine Arts.
