The Gallery of CNY announces an important addition to its collection of contemporary American paintings. The Gallery has acquired a cache of 19th and early 20th century paintings from a major Central New York collector who wishes to remain anonymous. Jennifer Schutzendorf, owner of the Gallery, says "This acquisition gives our patrons access to historically significant artists who are part of the rich tradition of landscape painting in New York State."
Most of the paintings are by well known professional artists, including Fernando Carter, Frank Barney, and Harry Sunter. Gordon Muck who taught art at Fayetteville-Manlius high school is also represented.
The acquisition also included a painting by Jervis McEntee, a Hudson River School artist whose paintings have sold for upwards of $45,000 at auction.
