The Gallery of CNY’s located in the heart of New York state specializes in landscapes by the most successful and original full-time working artists in Central New York. Our mission is to get the work of our artists into serious collectors hands and museums, hence building the artists' career and value of their work. We believe the artists we represent are making history for CNY just as artists of the Hudson River School made history. The Gallery of CNY's artists study together; they influence each other and they are inspired by the same surroundings. The majority of our artists including George Van Hook, Nicora Gangi, Joseph W. Sosnowski are recognized and have received acclaim both nationally and internationally.
Among these artists, Wayne Daniels, a regional oil painter and Cazenovia resident, has studied and produced paintings reminiscent of the 'Old Masters’ for years. With a deliberate and time-staking glazing technique he creates luminous landscapes reflective of Central New York and has become one of the gallery’s most highly sought artist.
Words of Wayne Daniels: "In my landscapes, I try to recapture the depth and luminosity of the oil paint that was for the most part lost when the impressionists abandoned the methods of the old masters. I feel that while a brighter pallet and greater spontaneity was gained with impressionism, the jewel like translucency that can only be achieved with the oil medium was sacrificed.
I build up my paintings in thin, transparent layers, laying one color over another until the correct tonal and color balance is reached. I also build areas of impasto which after they have dried, are again overlaid with thin glazes This ultimately allows the texture underneath to show through. To me painting is about the contrast of light against dark, bright colors with earth tones, thick impasto paired with wafer thin glazes of paint.
It is much more time consuming to paint in this way, but to me the results are worth it and I believe it’s what draws collectors to my work." - Wayne Daniels, July 2009
